Celebrating 100 years of success, Alfa Romeo has chosen the Goodwood Festival of Speed as the location to mark its reputation for being “one of the world’s most revered automotive Marques”, according to CarPages.co.uk. The festival is expected to include a Central Feature art installation, which is set to be one of the most “stylish and memorable sculptures ever constructed for the Festival”, reports CarPages.co.uk.

If you don’t want to miss the annual Goodwood festival, make sure you pencil the 2nd to the 4th of July in your diary as an event not to be missed. Like most memorable events there is a theme, and in this case the subject is ‘Vice Veloce’ – the passion for speed. According to RallyBuzz.com, the festival theme celebrates the “all-consuming fascination of motor racing and in particular Italy’s global influence on the sports”.

Having a passion for speed is something that we celebrate regularly, with computer games showing a ‘Need for Speed’ and films demonstrating ‘The Fast and the Furious’, with this event in particular  focusing on Italian racing, which has portrayed “breathtaking fervour, inspiring desire and devotion that transcends national identity”, says a Goodwood spokesperson.

The Telegraph website has reported that Goodwood will also celebrate 60 years of the Formula One Championship, running alongside the central theme, with a gathering of vintage cars and drivers that have shaped the history of classic motorsports most glamorous series.

With construction work due to commence shortly, Alfa have a lot to live up to after claiming that their sculpture will be the most “stylish and memorable” so far.

According to Pistonheads, “Alfa ought to have the unique flair (and more importantly the classic portfolio) to live up to it”.

Alfa have revealed that there will be a stunning display of their cars at the Festival, including many never seen in the UK, direct from the marque’s Museo Storico collection in Milan.

With more than 50 Alfa Romeo’s expected to attend the show, ranging from examples of the pre-war P3, Monza, 12C-37 and 2900B Le Mans, through to the 159 Alfetta, GTAm, Tipo 33, 185T, 164 Pro Car, and the unique V10-powered SE 048SP Group C prototype.

What better way to celebrate your 100th birthday bash than to invite all classic car and motorsport enthusiasts along to join in the festivities, where they can catch a glimpse of the new Alfa Giulietta, which goes on sale in the UK this summer. CarPages.co.uk have also reported that the Alfa Romeo Giulietta will be displayed as part of the GOODWOOD ‘Moving Motor Show’ on Thursday 1st July, giving British motorists their very first opportunity to see the car and drive it up the famous Goodwood Hill.

The Porsche 911 has been modified many times over its lifespan to suit the current markets and to satisfy the demands of its customers.  The classic 911 is said to have been developed as a much more powerful, larger more comfortable replacement for the 356 – the company’s first model, and has gone on to be the most successful model created by the famous marque.

Every classic car can be traced back to its roots and for the 911 this goes as far back as the original sketches drawn by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche in 1959. The 911 Carrera RS are considered by many to be the greatest classic 911′s of all time and are highly regarded among collectors.

When a new car is born there is always high hopes, but Porsche’s first six-cylinder production car has surpassed all expectations and long lived into a new millennium.  Every year newer, shinier, faster cars hit the roads and the headlines promising better performance than the last, and the Porsche is no exception.

The 911 GT1 was designed and developed in 1996 for the purpose of competing in the GT1 Le Mans racing class.

This particular model even gave the McLaren F1 GTR’s a run for their money on the race track and in 1998 went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

According to PistonHeads.com, Porsche has released pictures of the new 911 Carrera GTS ahead of the big reveal at the Paris Motor Show next month. Porsche says, “the new Carrera ascends to the pinnacle of the Carrera model series, with a power output of 408hp, outstanding vehicle dynamics and a specification” that emphasises the character of the iconic classic coupe.

This model comes as a ‘last hurrah’ before the 997-series arrives next year and attempts to park in the rather large shoes of the 911.

Attention all Classic Car Enthusiasts: Now the weather is starting to get warmer and the daylight hours are lasting longer into the evening it’s time to delve into those dusty garages and retrieve your vintage vehicles.  The Independent website has reported that “there is something about classic cars that is intrinsically more interesting than a new one”, and each car is unique with an understated gracefulness – “moving with the charm of a grand old dame rather than the loitering teenager”.

Such gracious traditional cars generally come out when the weather is nice enough to show them off in their full glory. There is no point investing all that money in a vintage car just to expose it to bad weather conditions that will rust the beauty away – keeping it tucked away in a garage over the winter means it will be ready for action in the summer.

Apparently a Portuguese car owner took ‘keeping it tucked away’ to a whole new level, when 180 cars were found in a warehouse in Lisbon, Portugal.

According to CarCarCompany.com, “the owner of the cars was a car dealer in the 1970′s and 1980′s and decided to save the more interesting cars that came through his doors”- but apparently forgot about them, so that’s where they stayed gathering dust for over 15 years!

It has been reported that the long-forgotten warehouse revealed a stunning collection of European classics, including rare models of Jaguar, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Mercedes and Austin Minis, which appear to be in a salvageable condition – the exterior might need a brush up but I bet the interior is flawless and untouched by the dirt.

This overlooked dusty warehouse, containing many classic gems, sounds like the perfect opportunity for American Dirty Car Artist Scott Wade to show off his artistic skill of transforming dirt covered cars into fascinating pieces of art, achieving what dirtycarart.com describes as “amazing detailed shaded drawings”- but for us classic enthusiasts we want to know what the future holds for these rescued wonders.

Imagine moving into an empty farm house that has been vacant for over 15 years only to stumble upon a barn welded shut that quite frankly looked like an eyesore – only to find it was bursting with classic cars.

The saying goes ‘curiosity killed the cat’, but in this case curiosity revealed a rare collection of vintage vehicles, which according to CuriousType.com, are valued at just over $ 35 million – maybe curiosity isn’t such a bad thing?
