Exciting news is a foot for bikers. Mahindra 2 wheelers is up to something big. They have just announced a press conference on the 29th September, 2010 to unveil their motorbikes. There has been considerable buzz about these bikes from Mahindra after the teasers were released. The teasers are very exciting and I recommend that you should watch them, if you haven’t already. They show clips of the bikes being tested on a testing course in Italy without actually showing the full picture of the bikes. Two motorbikes will be launched at this event. I have gathered from a few sources that I have in the industry that this launch will be a never seen before spectacle.

To make this grand launch even more fantastic, Mahindra 2 wheelers have announced a fabulous contest. This contest is going to be held exclusively on their Facebook Fan Page. Contest details can be checked here.

The contest involves guessing the names of the two bikes correctly and writing an appropriate slogan for the same. There are many bike names listed on the fan page. You will have to guess the actual names of the bikes. The winning entry will fetch the winner a place at the grand opening. He or she will be specially flown down to Mumbai to attend the Grand Unveiling and will get to meet key people behind the motorbike project.  They will also get to meet Mr. Anand Mahindra, and Vice-Chairman  and Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra and many Bollywood celebrity. This contest is a once in a lifetime opportunity for bike enthusiasts to live their dream. Hurry up, because the contest closes on Monday.

I am impressed with Mahindra  & Mahindra  for innovating constantly in the automobile industry.

I believe this event will definitely be a success. Here’s wishing them all the best.

Check out the New 2009 Mighty Muscular Mahindra Scorpio with Micro Hybrid Technology

Mahindra & Mahindra, the leader in utility vehicles in India, has taken the initiative to introduce the path breaking FuelSmart System for the first time in India. The FuelSmart system is an automatic engine start stop system. It has been introduced in its Scorpio M2DI and Bolero SLX BS3 models.

The start stop system automatically shuts down and restarts the automobile’s engine. The engine begins effortlessly once a driver depresses a clutch prior to moving ahead. This in turn reduces the duration for which the engine is kept idling, thereby improving fuel economy. This start stop system comes into play when the automobile has to spend considerable amounts of time waiting at traffic signals or in traffic jams. This feature started in hybrid electric vehicles but now has also started appearing in vehicles without a hybrid powertrain like Scorpio and Bolero. Fuel economy can improve by 5 to 10 percent in non-hybrid vehicles with the start stop system. Continue reading ‘The Start Stop Micro Hybrid Technology in SUV Mahindra Scorpio’ »

Mahindra Chakan, a 700 acre, future-ready facility set up by automaker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M) at Chakan, was inaugurated this Saturday by the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Chavan.

Initially, the plant will have an annual installed capacity of 300,000 units, including 50,000 trucks. This will enable M&M to manufacture its entire range of products ranging from the 0.75-tonne Maxximo to the 49-tonne Mahindra Navistar truck, as also its sports utility vehicle (SUV) range it plans to launch in the U.S. The plant will initially make the full range of medium and heavy commercial vehicles from the joint venture with Navistar ranging from 25-49 tonne tippers and trucks. It will also accommodate production of other models if required by the future market demand. “We will manufacture all new products here, including the range that will be exported to the US,” Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Sector, M&M said. Rs. 5,000 Cr. will be invested in the first phase of the plant, making this the largest single investment in the Indian auto sector. According to Dr. Goenka, half of this has already been made, while the other half will be invested over the next 18 months. Built as a green facility, the plant will tap alternate energy sources such as solar energy and waste heat for use in factory operations. This will reduce the consumption of LPG and electricity in the paint shop, in addition to lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 3,500 tonnes at full volume. Upon completion, Mahindra Chakan will be amongst the most eco-friendly auto plants in the world. M&M Chakan will house paint shops, press shops and body shops, as also an engine plant with an installed capacity of 1,20,000 engines for utility vehicles and 40,000 engines for trucks. The facility employs around 1,400 people at present. At full capacity, the plant will provide 5,000 direct jobs and five times as many indirect jobs.
