In the automobile industry which has been displaying tremendous growth of late, Ford is top of three automotive majors as far as sales are concerned. Ford has been investing much in India and expanding its base in the country. They are trying to enhance capacity at the Chennai facility. In this article, let’s have a look at Ford’s inventory of cars. Ford cars have been doing great in India and it’s time we had a look at the car maker’s complete inventory in the Indian car market.

Ford Endeavour:

With its tough looks and the shift-on-fly four-wheel drive, the Endeavour sets the road on fire. Such is the performance of this macho Ford car. The 3-litre turbo diesel engine spews out 154 bhp and the engine has been mated to a five speed automatic transmission.

The car’s off-road dynamics are splendid too.

Ford Fiesta:

Spirited and quick to respond with the avant garde Dura technology, the Fiesta combines its high stability with extraordinary driving ease. In India, this Ford car is available with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol variants and 1.4-litre diesel engines. The five-speed manual transmission allows crisp and accurate gear shifts. The compact luxury sedan from Ford’s stables has cosy interiors and top-notch safety features too. Acceleration and ride quality are satisfactory.

Ford Fusion:

This Ford car has a bold and practical appearance. However, the car maker has not been receiving too many numbers from this model and it has been speculated that the car may slowly walk out of the market.

Ford claims that this is the smallest and lightest car with the latest engine from the car maker. Sad but true, some time from now, we may not see this spacious and sleek model around.

Ford Ikon:

The Ford Ikon is a charm that occupies Indian roads. The athletic bumpers, the chic and glossy finish, the roomy interiors and the smooth performance just draw people towards it. The DuraTorq TDCi engine is capable of churning out 67 bhp of power. The fuel-efficient diesel engine delivers an overall mileage of 17.9 kmpl while the petrol engine delivers an overall fuel economy of 11.65 kmpl. Even beyond 4,000 rpm, the car shows no sign of vibration; it is that firm. The engine snarls and is cool for daring young drivers. This Ford car has posed enough competition to other contenders in the same segment.

Ford Figo:

Finally, we come to the most popular new car from Ford, the Figo. This is the latest darling of Indians. It is available in both petrol and diesel variants and has been very reasonably priced. Quality, substance and generous proportions can all be found in the Figo. It is high on safety too with features like ABS with EBD and dual front airbags. To be noted, the Ford Figo also comes with Bluetooth phone interface. This car has been quite capable in capturing the Indian mind and has grabbed quite a high number as far as sales are concerned. Though new, it is already among the top ten highest selling models in India.

So, that’s about Ford cars that are already in the Indian car market. The Ford Focus, Ford Mondeo and the Ford Fiesta hatchback are yet to premier on the country’s roads.

Combining a large load capacity with MPV practicality and car-like comfort, performance and handling, the new Fiat Scudo LCV is now available for sale from various dealers.
New Scudo is available in 18 versions from launch, priced from £15,884 – £22,688 on-the-road. The new Scudo range encompasses Panel Vans, Platform Cabs as a basis for conversion, and two Commercial Passenger Vehicle variants, the 5/6 or 8/9 seat Combi and the 5/6 seat Panorama Family. The latter can also be requested with a third row seating option. New Scudo features larger dimensions to the length, height and width of a load compartment now offering a maximum volume of 7 m3 and a payload of up to 1200 kg. The new Platform Cab range offers an increased, driver inclusive payload of up to 3000 kg.Significantly, in addition to a best-in-class load threshold height of just 490 mm, the overall height of Standard Roof versions equipped with Fiat’s innovative pneumatic suspension may be lowered to just 1.9 metres, giving Scudo access to underground and multi-storey car parks normally inaccessible to LCVs of this class.

Ford’s ECOnetic low CO2 technology is coming to the Ford Transit. On sale later this year, the new Transit ECOnetic is based on the front-wheel drive Transit 280 panel van with short wheelbase and 2.2-litre 115PS Duratorq TDCi engine. Target fuel economy is 39.2mpg, while average CO2 emissions are a best in class 189 g/km.
The Transit ECOnetic features the Durashift six-speed manual transmission (VMT-6). This offers a wider range of available gear ratios over the prior Durashift five-speed transmission, allowing better fuel economy at all speeds, while the power and torque upgrade offers rewarding performance on demand. The ‘shorter’ gearing in first gear allows for improved pull-away performance, while the ‘longer’ gearing in top provides improved highway fuel economy (around 10 per cent better compared with the combined NEDC figures), with reduced engine revs for a range of speeds and loads for the standard Transit configuration.
Detail engineering for the Transit ECOnetic included reducing the availability of the heaviest options such as a second sliding door. However, all standard and optional safety and comfort features are available. Continue reading ‘Information about vans’ »
