The ruins of Deer Abbey were set up by the monks from Kinloss. The site’s claim to fame came from the Book of Deer, which can now be found in the Fitzwilliam Museum Library in Cambridge. Admission to the abbey is free, making this a must-see for all travelers to Scotland.
Dunbar Castle, Lothian
Some say this was once the finest castle in all of Scotland. The castle fell into the sea in 1993 and all that is left is its remains. However, there is enough left of the castle to make it worth stopping by. There is no public access allowed, but passing up what used to be the finest castle is Scotland would be a travesty.
